About

“From the soil, I emerge (What feels like Home?)” is an interactive installation experimenting with changes that occur within the inner being and consciousness whilst standing still, traveling, and moving.

This piece, as it stands, embodies consciousness in interaction with the elements; where textile stands as body, soil representing place, dyes as layers of consciousness, water as agency, and people as agents of dialogue with the self.

The position of standing still invites people into the artist’s process of constant revival and review of identity, memory, and personal narratives. Patterns, color and environment allow for this process of discovery and emergence of self and constant creation of an identity.

This body in form of pattern, textile and color, carries the stories of immigration and movement, where here at JAX, Diriyah, the context lends itself to a dialogue around identity, genealogical impressions, cultural interactions and reactions, as well as questions around the spaces we inhabit that shape our journey of becoming. Soils, particles, rocks and other sediments embody the spirit of the Wadi, in that they represent the moment of standing still, reflecting and internalizing change, with one another.
